Japanese Electronic Parts Makers Cash in on Robust Car Market
Double-Digit Growth
Alps Electric Co., Ltd. saw an increase in sales of automotive devices, such as switches, sensors, and communication devices, as well as favorable sales of automotive modules, including door modules, electronic shifters, and keyless entry systems.
Among the three priority markets of automobiles, information and communications technology (ICT), and industrial equipment and energy, TDK Corporation saw increased sales of capacitors and inductors for automobiles. In addition, sales of temperature, pressure and magnetic sensors increased, falling under the company's sensor segment, which is its strategic growth products business.
In its lineup of mainstay monolithic ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. provides products that withstand maximum operating temperature of up to 200°C, targeting equipment used under severe temperature environments, as well as water-repellant type for dew condensation countermeasure, for vehicle-to-everything (V2X), and for infotainment. In the future, Murata plans to expand sales of Toko Inc.'s power inductors, a new material film capacitors made by a joint venture company with Shizuki Electric Co., Inc., and IPDiA S.A.'s three-dimensional (3D) silicon capacitors, targeting EVs. Murata intends to provide new values, targeting advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and V2X, through the synergy of the company's original technologies, such as sensor and communications technologies.
ROHM Co., Ltd. focuses its efforts on gate driver control ICs that maximize the performance of silicon-carbide (SiC) power devices, which are the most advanced power devices that use SiC, meeting the demand for higher-performance inverters for EVs. Responding to the rapid expansion of the market, ROHM will advance investments to expand production of SiC power devices. The company intends to promote the downsizing of motors and inverters with higher efficiency by proposing total solutions combined with module technology.
