Qualcomm, Datang Mobile to Conduct 5G NR Interoperability Testing
Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and Datang Mobile will collaborate on 5G NR Interoperability and Development Testing (IODT) in 3.5GHz band based on 3GPP Release 15 specifications. The testing will utilize 3GPP 5G NR specification compliant base stations from Datang Mobile and user equipment (UE) from Qualcomm Technologies.
"The efforts to achieve a successful 5G NR IODT with global leading mobile companies such as Qualcomm Technologies and Datang Mobile are essential to driving the commercial launches of standard-compliant 5G NR networks and devices in 2019," said Durga Malladi, Senior Vice President, Engineering, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. "Qualcomm Technologies is committed to the continued success of China's wireless industry, and we are excited to work with Datang Mobile to accelerate 5G commercialization in China."
A 5G NR IODT is the foundation to enable the interoperability between the UE, radio access network and core network, and an essential step toward 5G commercialization and deployment at scale. The IODT between Qualcomm Technologies and Datang Mobile aims to accelerate the rollout of 5G NR commercial deployments in 2019.
"Datang Mobile is devoted to the development of 5G standards, technologies, commercial equipment and solutions, and has been working with industry partners on the 5G commercial launches," said Sun Xiaonan, Executive Vice President, Datang Mobile.
Datang Mobile has comprehensive deployments in 5G key technologies, standardization, industry upgradation, and ecosystem construction, leveraging its rich experiences in 3G and 4G. It has achieved multiple leading results and significantly contributed to the development of 5G in China.
Qualcomm Technologies, meanwhile, has recently launched several 5G NR prototype systems that are compliant with 3GPP specifications and has achieved 5G interoperability with a wide range of ecosystem members globally. Based on its commercial 5G solution, the Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 5G modem, Qualcomm Technologies is working with dozens of global operators and OEMs for the launches of the world's first 5G networks and devices expected in 2019.
