Murata to Acquire Haptic Solutions Provider MIRAISENS
Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has forged an agreement to acquire haptic solutions provider MIRAISENS Inc., making it a wholly-owned subsidiary of Murata. No further details have been disclosed yet on the acquisition, but the acquisition will boost Murata's foray into 3D haptic solutions.
MIRAISENS' haptic solutions technology employs 3DHaptics technology, which makes possible by combining the three senses of force, namely the feeling of being pulled or pushed or pressure; the feeling of touch, firmness, and software or tactility; and the feeling of surface textures. MIRAISENS is developing 3DHapptics technology based on Illusionary Haptics, which is based on neuroscientific basis by Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST).
The company's haptic solutions technology differs from conventional technology based on physical engineering and allows humans perceive various textures and tactile sensations by generating illusions in the brain through specific stimulation patterns on the skin. Demand in haptic solutions has been growing in various fields, which is expected to develop with the onset of enabling technologies such as 5G communications standard.
